NPCs

From StepHarvest Wiki

Villagers are the people of the StepHarvest community. There are five, and each one is tied to one of the game's core activities. Build friendships by chatting and gift giving, and they reward you with crafting recipes, useful items, cosmetics, and their personal stories.

How friendship works

Every villager has a friendship level shown as hearts, up to 10. Friendship is tracked separately for each villager and caps at 10 hearts.

  • Talk to a villager once a day for a small friendship boost.
  • Gift once a day. How much it is worth depends on their taste: a loved gift gives the most, a liked gift a solid amount, a neutral item a little, and a disliked gift actually lowers friendship.
  • Gifts given on a villager's birthday are worth double, so save your best items for the day (birthdays are marked on the Calendar).

Heart milestones

As your hearts climb, you reach milestones that unlock things tied to that villager's trade: new crafting recipes, one-off item rewards, a cosmetic at max hearts, and short heart events that reveal who they are.

Story questlines

Beyond daily chats, each villager has a 10-part story questline that unfolds as you befriend them. The quests weave in tasks tied to their specialty and gradually reveal more of their character.

The villagers

Tip. Each villager loves things connected to their trade, so the activity you enjoy most naturally produces great gifts for its villager.
