Quests give you goals to chase and neighbors to help around StepHarvest. There are two kinds: hand-written story quests from the villagers, and daily requests from the town board.
Story quests
You pick these up by talking to the villagers (Maple, Craig, Hazel, Olive, and Captain Reed). Each villager offers their own hand-written quests, and many form chains, where finishing one opens the next. Some quests only appear once you meet their requirements, such as a certain mastery level, enough friendship with that villager, or finishing an earlier quest.
A quest is split into steps you complete in order. Objectives can include:
- Walking a number of steps.
- Completing a few mining, fishing, or foraging runs.
- Collecting a quantity of an item, sometimes at a minimum quality.
- Gifting an item to a villager.
- Reaching a mastery level, or crafting a recipe a few times.
When you finish every step, return to the villager to claim your rewards, which can be any mix of gold, items, friendship points, mastery XP, and unlocked crafting recipes.
Example. Craig might ask you to complete a few mine runs, collect 10 Silver
Copper Ore, then smelt a
Copper Bar, rewarding gold, mining XP, and friendship with him.
Villager requests (daily)
The Villager Requests board in town carries a fresh batch of "collect X of an item" tasks that rotate every day. They are driven by whatever the town has too much of, so they are always something you can realistically gather. Each request you accept has a deadline of about a week and pays out friendship and gold. You can keep taking new ones day after day.
Example. "Olive needs 25
Wheat" pays friendship with Olive, gold, and a small bonus.
